Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – BABOS TCT Annular Cutters

Q1. What is a TCT annular cutter, and how does it work?

A TCT (Tungsten Carbide Tipped) annular cutter is a heavy-duty, hollow core drill bit designed for magnetic drilling machines, radial drills, and CNC machining centers. Featuring geometrically arranged micro-grain tungsten carbide teeth brazed onto an alloy steel body, it cuts only the outer periphery of the hole. This leaves a solid center metal slug and dramatically reduces cutting resistance compared to solid twist drills.

Q2. What is the difference between a TCT annular cutter and an HSS cutter?

While both are core drills, TCT and HSS (High-Speed Steel) annular cutters are built for different drilling conditions and metal hardness levels:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – BABOS TCT Annular Cutters

Q3. Which materials can BABOS TCT annular cutters cut?

BABOS TCT core drills are engineered to penetrate tough, hard, and abrasive metals with ease, including:

  • High-Tensile & Structural Steels: Q345, Q460, S355, high-strength structural plates, and heavy I-beams.

  • Hardened & Wear-Resistant Alloy Steels: High-strength wear-resistant steel plates, armored alloys, and quenched steel.

  • Stainless Steels: Austenitic and duplex grades (SUS 304, 316, 316L) where thermal wear is a challenge.

  • Cast Irons & Highly Abrasive Metals: Ductile iron, grey cast iron, and high-silicon aluminum alloys.

  • Rail Tracks & Tough Engineering Materials: Railway lines, heavy truck chassis frames, and heat-treated structural components.

Q4. What shank types are available for BABOS TCT cutters?

To ensure maximum compatibility with global magnetic drill brands, we offer multiple shank options:

  • 3/4" (19.05 mm) Weldon Shank: Standard universal fit with dual flat spots for most magnetic drilling machines.

  • Universal Shank: Compatible with both Weldon and Quick-In retention systems.

  • 18 mm Fein Quick-In Shank: Designed for European quick-change mag drills.

  • 1-1/4" (31.75 mm) Weldon Shank: Heavy-duty shank for large-diameter TCT cutters.

Q5. What size ranges and depths of cut (DOC) do you offer?

We offer a comprehensive range of standard and non-standard TCT cutter sizes:

  • Cutting Diameters: Standard options range from 12 mm to 100+ mm. Custom manufacturing is available for large diameters up to 250 mm+.

  • Cutting Depths (DOC): Standard stock options include 35 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm, and 100 mm. Extra-deep cutting depths of 150 mm and 200 mm are available in stock or made to order.

Q6. How does chip evacuation and slug ejection work in TCT cutters?

BABOS TCT annular cutters feature optimized spiral flutes that quickly clear metal chips during heavy-duty drilling. A central pilot pin (ejector pin) aligns the hole location, directs internal coolant flow directly to the cutting edges, and automatically ejects the solid center metal slug once the hole is completed.

Q7. Can you manufacture non-standard or custom TCT annular cutters?

Yes, absolutely. As a direct manufacturer, BABOS provides customized cutting tool solutions tailored to your drawings or technical samples. We can produce custom TCT annular cutters with cutting diameters up to 250 mm and cutting depths (DOC) up to 200 mm. Contact our technical sales team with your specifications for a custom quotation.

Q8. Which magnetic drilling machines are compatible with your cutters?

Our TCT cutters are compatible with virtually all major magnetic drill brands worldwide (including Euroboor, Nitto, Milwaukee, Hougen, BDS, Alfra, Fein, and Dewalt). Please confirm your machine’s arbor and shank connection type (3/4" Weldon, Quick-In, or 1-1/4" Weldon) when placing your inquiry.

Q9. What are the key target industries for BABOS TCT annular cutters?

Our TCT core drills are widely trusted in heavy-duty industrial sectors, including:

  • Structural Steel Fabrication & Construction: Steel frame buildings, high-rises, industrial warehouses, and gusset/truss bolt hole drilling.

  • Bridge Construction & Highway Infrastructure: On-site steel girder maintenance, reinforcement, and heavy structural joint fabrication.

  • Shipbuilding, Marine & Offshore: Ship hull assembly, deck plate drilling, and offshore platform fabrication.

  • Railway & Locomotive Maintenance: On-track rail drilling for fishplates, signaling equipment, and locomotive chassis repair.

  • Heavy Machinery & Earthmoving Equipment: Truck chassis manufacturing, mining equipment, crane boom modification, and wear-plate processing.

Q10. Do you support OEM service and wholesale bulk orders?

Yes, BABOS fully supports OEM manufacturing, custom branding, and bulk wholesale orders. For standard sizes, we maintain extensive inventory ready for immediate shipment; custom and non-standard sizes are produced on demand. Contact our sales team today with your target quantities and specifications for pricing and lead times.

How can the quality of the products be ensured?

Our strict quality control is implemented at every stage, including powder processing, pressing, sintering, forming, grinding, polishing, and coating.

How long is the production lead time for custom tools?

Standard tools:3-7 working days.Custom tools:Depending on the complexity of the design, the production period is 10-20 days.

Do you have a minimum order quantity(MOQ)?

For standard products,we can accept a lower minimum order quantity. For custom tools, the minimum order quantity may vary depending on the complexity of the design and the production setup.

What tolerances can custom carbide tools achieve?

Depending on the tool geometry and specifications, dimensional tolerances of up to ±0.01 mm can be maintained.

Can you produce tools based on my custom drawings or samples?

Yes, we can customize carbide tools according to customer drawings, 3D models, or physical samples, fully supporting OEM/ODM services.

What materials can carbide tools cut?

Carbide tools are suitable for a wide range of materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, titanium, wood, plastics, and composites.
